Kevin’s in a pickle

Too many drinks… The ol pineapple strikes again. 1 half pint, another half pint… Seems Fridays full of half pints for Kev…
When Friday rolls around, Kevin seems to blame his colleagues for what is clearly a inept hedonistic philosophy. It’s time for Kevin to drink less half pint, and be a full man.

Facebook (read: armchair) politicking and science as a religion

Facebook status: ‘politics should probably stay out of religion’

Replying comment: ‘Separation of church and state. It’s in the constitution. Although it really means religion should stay out of politics, I reckon any rule should work both ways.’

My comment: ‘Politics and religion are each about choice and belief – so, like it or not they go hand in hand – if anything, religion should be kept out of schools and science – unlike the young with their youthful naivety, politicians (should) have the capacity to make an informed choice. Besides, science is neither a belief system or method of governance, yet somehow it is often treated as the antithesis of religion?!’

Accompanying quote from a TED talk: ‘government is how we do together, what we cannot do as individuals’.

Note: this is on an iPad 2, but is probably universal. Continue reading

Channel 4 claim China is the 4th Reich – How to rouse a dragon

Having watched and enjoyed the first 2 episodes of China, Triumph and Turmoil, I was pleased to see another episode of the TV documentary series hosted by Niall Ferguson appear on my 4OD iPad app. It offers clever and often stark predictions about the pending shift of power from west to east punctuated with the fascinating history of Chinese sovereignty, politics and unrest (liao dung?). I liked it! it really interested me! However, at the conclusion of the 3rd and most recent episode, i found the build toward and final parallel drawn with Germany’s Nazi 3rd reich less than tasteful. Why videos go viral

Ever wonder why Rebecca Black’s Friday spread like the fear of economic implosion on Black Friday? Or why a hippie yelling about rainbows caught way more attention than it deserves… (no, I still love you Bear!).

Podcasting and the future of online audio

Podcasting, tipped to be the next disruptive digital movement seems to have not lived up to expectations according to Tac Anderson’s recent blog post about the social audio portal SoundCloud. As an ex-radio producer and both an avid listener and producer of podcasts, I’d like to offer some quick analysis of the perils and future of podcasting.

Reading Tac’s post left me wondering yet again about the state of online audio content. The post has a focus on the low uptake of podcasting by some content producers – eg. marketing people and smaller organisations – and also on a lack of access to the tools of podcast production.

How to map a Sharepoint Document Library as a PC local drive

Frustratingly, Sharepoint online portal is not much of a joy to navigate. If you use shared documents libraries for regularly updated content, attempting to convince co-collaborators (and yourself) to utilise those document libraries can be like the proverbial pissing in the wind. Continue reading
